Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
