An individual who contaminated candy with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two boys aged between nine and ten.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.

However, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a young boy.

Ruben was held in detention before a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he ran.

The man played a "candy game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.

She stated Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his family member had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."

The legal counsel explained materials including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained the defendant continued to play the "candy game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.

The legal representative explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the law enforcement once more.

She said the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
